Bake Sale
Another year passes by and Patients Welfare Association remains affixed as a star high up in the sky. ‘We Feel, We Serve’ – The motto has not lost its cognitive message and embellishes the relentless and worth appreciating work of the innumerable volunteers, who are all students working to wipe off despondence and gloominess from as many faces as they can.
Every year, the first year students of Dow Medical College organize a mega fund raising event by the name Bake Sale which is one of the most magnanimous events held in the year. This year too, the record was broken and the first years managed to collect a colossal amount of Rs.1,419,528.
The event was held on March 9, 2010 at the Civil Hospital, Karachi. It was inaugurated by Mrs. Sadia Rashid, President, Hamdard Foundation. The stalls set up by the students attracted a grear number of people. The balloon and the flower stalls were amongst the most popular stalls. Moreover, food stalls, which included cakes and other baked items, biryani, haleem, ice-cream and beverages were much sought out. In addition, volunteers had put up henna and nail art stalls, where they were seen displaying their creativity. The auction followed the Bake Sale event, where unsold items were auctioned off to the people present there.
Reputed celebrities like Anwar Maqsood, Behroze Sabswari, Mani, Nadia Mistry and Qazi Wajid added to the charm of the event by their presence. It was given extensive coverage by both electronic and print media which took part in highlighting the objectives and goals that PWA aimed to achieve by holding this gala. Once again the PWA upheld its esteem and the event was a huge success! It is hoped that PWA continues this generous work of imparting the much-required smiles to the dispirited souls.
