The Drug Bank was founded in 1979 as a single cabinet of medicines mainly in response to an increasing number of destitute patients who could not afford to buy life saving medicines. Since then, it has grown to its recent state of a full fledged pharmacy, enabling the students of Dow Medical College; the sole and active workers running the Drug Bank, to put a smile on the faces of those who can’t help themselves.
The Drug Bank caters to the needs of hospitalized patients at Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK), accepting unlimited requests per ward each day. Besides those given on daily basis, drugs are also being given in follow up clinics including Thalassemia follow up, Tuberculosis follow up and General follow up.
Computerization of Drug bank in the year 2004 has made the work more efficient.
