Success Stories

Nimra Ejaz was born as a healthy and normal child on 6th October 1996. Her father, Ejaz Mohammed, father of three children in spite of living from hand to mouth had many dreams for her daughter’s future who was second in number among his kids. Unfortunately, at the age of 3 months, she started becoming pale and weak and suffered from continuous fever which led to the suspicions of thalassemia.

Nimra’s day by day worsening condition and the unaffordable treatment of this crippling disease made Nimra’s family dejected and hopeless. In this midst of darkness, Patients Welfare Association (PWA) enlightened Nimra’s distressful life with a new hope by providing free blood transfusions and free drugs and has been doing it since May, 1997. Since the major complications associated with thalassemia are frequent blood transfusions and iron overload, PWA provides Nimra free blood for transfusion after every 14 days. Up to 300 bags of blood have been provided so far, thus overcoming the problem of blood transfusion. Repeated transfusion leads to iron overload which is prevented by specific medicines provided by PWA. In this way, PWA is helping Nimra’s family to fight with the challenges of thalassemia.

Today, Alhamdulillah, Nimra is of 14 years, she goes to madrassah and participates actively in household work and her aim in life is to become an Aalima (scholar).
